...New AVIATION...
.KEY MESSAGES...
Updated at 1148 AM CDT Wed May 14 2025
- Near/Record temperatures possible Wednesday.
- Daily thunderstorm chances will return this weekend and into
early next week. Strong/severe storms possible for at least a
few of those days.
&&
.NEAR TERM...
(Today and tonight)
Issued at 235 AM CDT Wed May 14 2025
Warming trend will continue today as a shortwave mid-level ridge
moves through the southern Plains. At the surface, westerly winds
will increase through the day which will foster adiabatic heating
from the downslope flow. Record temperatures are expected across
central Oklahoma, with highs in the mid to upper 90s. The entire
area should see at least 90F by this afternoon, with some
locations reaching into the triple digits across southwest
Oklahoma and western north Texas.
A weak cold front will move into the area late tonight into
Wednesday morning which will help lows dip back down to the upper
50s to 60s, especially behind the front.

.SHORT TERM...
(Thursday through Friday night)
Issued at 235 AM CDT Wed May 14 2025
Temperatures behind the aforementioned cold front will stay above
average, but will be 10-15 degrees cooler than Wednesday`s high
temperatures. There is also low rain and thunderstorm chances
across portions of central and southern Oklahoma Thursday morning
through the afternoon.
Mid-level zonal flow will continue through the end of the week.
Southerly winds will return Friday afternoon across southeastern
Oklahoma. There are additional thunderstorm chances Friday
afternoon across southeastern Oklahoma where the better moisture
will reside. Afternoon temperatures will once again reach get back
up into the upper 80s to low 90s.

.LONG TERM...
(Saturday through Tuesday)
Issued at 235 AM CDT Wed May 14 2025
Confidence is increasing with potentially several days of strong
to severe storms over the weekend into next week. Moisture return
across much of the area is expected to take place starting
Saturday with a dryline set up to the west near the 100th
Meridian. Upper 60s to low 70s dewpoints to the east of the
dryline will continue to overspread the area during this
timeframe. A favorable upper-level pattern will exist for severe
weather during the long term, especially later in the weekend into
early next week. Narrowing in on exact locations and timing for
higher impact severe weather is still in question at this time, as
we are still several days out. Needless to say, a pattern shift
that supports increased chances of thunderstorms will exist this
weekend into early next week. Additional details for severe
weather will become more clear as we get closer to the weekend.
Above average temperatures are expected to continue during the
long term.

.AVIATION...

Issued at 1148 AM CDT Wed May 14 2025

before a cold front shifts them to northwesterly tomorrow morning.
